At King Street Veterinary Hospital we are equipped with an iM3 veterinary dental unit and full dental radiology suite. We are able to see what lies below the gum line and perform the dental treatment your pet needs. From delicate extractions to professional scaling and polishing, everything your pet needs for a fresh breath and sparkling teeth!

The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia. Whilst under anaesthetic, your pet will have a thorough unconscious exam performed. This will provide the veterinarian the opportunity to assess all of the teeth, the gums and oral cavity for any problems. Any abnormalities are noted on your pet’s personal dental record. Common problems include: tartar, gingivitis, broken teeth, pulp exposure, oronasal fistula, tooth root abscesses, gum recession and cervical neck lesions.

A professional scaling and polishing are performed and any other intervention necessary can be conducted at the same time. Excellent pain management modalities such as dental nerve blocks, opioids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories are utilised to ensure a smooth recovery.

DENTAL XRAYS

In every dental procedure we perform, dental images will be taken of the whole mouth. Did you know that dogs have 42 teeth and cats have 30? We use the images taken of the teeth to diagnose dental disease under the gum line as 60% of the tooth is what we cannot see.
